Italy (Cinque Terra, Umbria, Tuscany) Informational Meeting

Dramatic Light and Shadow
July 9-12, 2010 -- $360 -- $50 deposit
4 days of Intensive study, practice and creation of Dramatic Light and Shadow Find the powerful effectiveness and success of utilizing shadows that conform to the shape of the object they fall on, hard and soft shadows, shadows from outside the page, shadows that vary in color and value and the reasons why……and my personal favorite – REFLECTED COLOR. See the attached photo to view a good example. In addition, we will explore photography and/or value sketches as the first critical step to a successful painting. Come join the FUN and allow light and shadow to create rich moods and atmosphere in your paintings.
Channel Island Painting
August 16 & 17 , 2010
Paint the transparent water, bold rocks and bodacious birds of Santa Cruz Island. We will meet on Monday the 16th, in studio, to learn techniques of painting pebbled beaches, pounding surf, pelicans and flowers natural to the islands. On Tuesday, we will board an Island Packer boat in Oxnard to spend the day painting and enjoying the beauty that is the Channel Islands. The workshop is $180. The boat cost, which you will book yourself, is $44. It will be important to reserve space soon so that we all get seating on the boat. Minimum 10 students. www.islandpackers.com

Are you interested in painting the rich Sienna hilltops and green fields of Tuscany and Umbria? Join Cathy Quiel on an Italian Artist adventure and paint fields of vibrant red poppies, hill top medieval towns, flower boxes, lined Italian Cypress and revel in the aroma of fresh bread and olive oil!
We will be staying in the exquisite medieval walled village of Citta della Pieve in Umbria. It has the beauty of Tuscany, but without tourists to hang over your shoulder while you are painting. You are therefore guaranteed peace, tranquility, exquisite views and peaceful painting moments.
Citta della Pieve is an excellent base to visit the hilltop towns of Umbria and Tuscany. Our air conditioned and comfortable motor coach will take us to neighboring villages such as Castiglione del 
Lago, Assisi, Cortona, Pacaino, Orvieto, Cortona, Siena and villages in neighboring Tuscany to paint. On your day off, Florence is 1 hour and Rome is 2 hours by train.
With a sense of adventure and curiosity we will be rewarded with unforgettable experiences and wonderful memories of splashing watercolor in Italy.
The Artist Adventure is a land package and includes 12 nights, 12 breakfasts, 3 dinners, motor coach transportation, daily instruction, demonstration and individual & group critique and lots of fun and art companionship.
